Every once in a while I get to see a picture of something I’m passionate about, and that is animal birthday. It’s fun to see the animals in their natural habitats (like in the picture below), but the most fun part is seeing all the great photos of them (like this one) in the wild.
I’ve always loved animals. I grew up with my dog and two cats, and I’ve always loved the way they look and feel. Seeing their natural habitats reminds me that all animals are not the same. I don’t mean to say that I am some kind of anti-animal person. On the contrary, I’ve always had a soft spot for animals.
This is what I think. I do not really think that animals are inherently bad, nor am I sure that they are inherently good. I am sure that they have a place in our lives and that they are not inherently evil, just as we have a place in our lives and that they are not inherently good.
The concept of animal-ness is one that has been around for a long time. The earliest known depiction of a cat is in Greek art and that painting is known as the Cat. The earliest known depiction of an elephant is in Chinese art and that painting is known as the elephant. In fact, the notion that animals were not “good” in our eyes is a concept that has been around for a long time.
We’ve all heard of the concept of good and evil. But what about the concept of animal-ness? The idea of an animal being good or evil, and how humans can make or break that notion, is a concept that is very old. We can trace the idea back to the earliest recorded depictions of animals on the planet. By the time of the Egyptians, animals were far more complex than we are today.
The first known written depictions of animals on the planet are the Sumerian clay tablets. They were created around 2600 B.C., and they show animals as more than just the physical stuff of life, but more like gods. The tablets are filled with drawings of animals that were more advanced than they are today. The Sumerians also had a special language that they used to describe their animals, which was called “kabbalah.” This is the language we know as Hebrew today.
We’re used to seeing animals in the world today, but the Sumerian clay tablets tell the story of how animals were meant to be seen and interacted with. The animals on the tablets are clearly created using the same technology that we are today. The animal drawings are not just animal representations, they are representations of how the animal would be represented today. The Sumerians were actually pretty good at drawing animals, making things that were pretty accurate and realistic.
The Sumerian animal drawings are actually pretty convincing. In Egypt as well as many other cultures, animals were portrayed, whether it be on pottery, walls, or clothes as representations of their natural behaviors. This is why we have so many animal statues from the ancient world, and why we see so many animals today in nature. The animals that portrayed on the tablets were pretty accurate depictions of what they would be today.
