These animals are all the animals that have the ability to “speak.” This ability allows them to communicate with the player, and to give in-game hints on what to do next. It’s also implied that these animals are extremely manipulative, making them the perfect targets for the player.
The animals in question are all very intelligent and seem to have some sort of mental disorder. But they are not the type to willingly give themselves up to the player, and because they are not aware that they are doing something wrong they get to do whatever they want.
