I’ve been told I’m an effective manager because I have a very strong sense of the importance of social media. The problem for me is that I feel I have to have an extremely strong grasp on it to succeed in my marketing career. I’m always afraid that I’ll lose my grasp on it and fall behind.
I feel the same. I don’t know what the answer is. I am constantly trying to be a more effective marketer and social media manager (or someone who likes to use both), but I feel as though I feel like Im doing it all wrong. I feel like, rather than being successful, Im often being overwhelmed with the task to keep me on track. And Im really don’t like that.
But it’s that feeling that gives me hope even though I know it’s not right. I’ve been told, by both my wife and my best friend, that I’m doing it all wrong. It’s not because I’m doing it wrong. It’s because I feel like I’m doing it all wrong. And its getting worse.
Yes, this is a common reaction to being told that you are doing it wrong. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realize that I was doing it all wrong for a long time. But Ive also come to realize that I could do it all right. I could do it all right now. If Im lucky enough to avoid a major accident or another heart attack, I can do what I really want to do. I can do what Im meant to do.
A great example of this comes from a company that Ive worked with for a while. While Ive worked for most of my career with them, Ive learned a lot from them and Ive learned that I always wanted to work for them. But Ive never truly understood what Im doing wrong. If Im doing it wrong, Ive always felt like Im doing it all wrong and Im always wanting to do it all right.
Ive learned that this is pretty common when Im working for a company that does so many things right. They have a lot of things they do 100% right, and they’re always trying to make sure Im doing it right. They want me to do it all right. In the end though, when Im working for a company like apollo marketing, Im not always doing it 100% right. They may have all of the right things, but Im not doing them 100% right.
