When you build a roof, you have to be very careful to make sure any of the three are going to last. The sub-base is the first component which needs to be built as flat as possible.

It is the second layer that you would have if you already had a flat roof. So how do you make sure there is no ridge? You could build the ridge with a flat roof but you’d have to make sure there’s a ridge over the base.
