This is the first of a two part series of posts about the life and legacy of William and his brother, architect, William H. Thompson. A couple of weeks before that, we will look at one of the most important pieces in their lives, the home, in this post.
William H. Thompson is most famous for designing the New York City skyline. This is not the William H. Thompson furniture company, though. The two families are now one, and the company has been renamed to Williams V. Thompson. William, as you may already know, is the architect who designed the city’s iconic buildings, such as the Empire State Building. William was a real estate mogul, but he wasn’t a great businessman. He was a bad businessman and a terrible, greedy businessman.
The original name of the company was Williams V. Thompson, and it doesn’t do much justice to the company’s name. The company’s name is a reference to the Williams family, who died when William V. Thompson was a young man.
V. Thompson was a self-made man who lost his money through bad business tactics. He decided to start a company to make a few extra bucks, but he soon found out what he was doing wrong. He began selling his designs, as well as his name to other business people, with the intent of making them the best. When he started to realize that his designs were becoming too expensive and not profitable, he decided to sell the company to his son.
William V. Thompson became chairman of the Thompson Company, and when it was bought in 1999, he and his son sold off most of the assets to keep their ownership secret, and the company they created. A year later, they were sued for $50 million because of what they were doing with the Thompson Corporation.
When I first learned about the Thompson Company, I had no idea that it was a part of a larger entity called the Thompson Company, or that William V. Thompson was the chairman. I had always thought he was just the guy who managed the company, but now I think he was its chief designer.

The company is real, but it’s a whole other story. The company was built to be a real estate company by the end of the 1980s, and the Thompson Corporation was a real estate broker. It’s not that Thompson is a real estate company, as they would have been if they’d never been created. But Williams is a real estate broker, and he’s a pretty damn great person.
We really love to use the word “principal.” This is because it is the best word to describe a director. You can’t do the same in a production, and you can’t do the same in a movie. I think we should use the word “principal” from the movie “Tha Waking” in order to describe a principal.
